Regency 59 – a great veggie takeaway

A good choice for veggies in this unassuming place on the opposite side of the road from the Angel.

During the day Regency 59 (also part of the King's Head) offers breakfast and then pub lunches, but in the evening they turn their hand to great Indian/Nepalese food.

We had a takeaway from there not long ago and the standard was excellent.

Apart from great choice for veggies – they offer four starters and three mains – there are the fair;y standard vegetable side dishes.

Everything tastes spicy but not so it knocks your head off, and combines lots of different flavours. The mains are priced at £7.95 and the starters are around £5.00.

We had the paneer makhani and the Kathmandu duo – both Nepalese.

The makhani is quite creamy but moreish and the Kathmandu is a plain lovely curry of chickpeas, potatoes and cauliflower which I always think works well with cumin, coriander and other spices.

The side dishes we opted for were a daal and the best baigan (aubergines) dish I’ve had for a long time – yum!

It’s definitely a bit better in terms of cooking and choice than the other Nepalese in town – maybe not as atmospheric if you eat in, but honestly do try.
