Fresh India by Meera Sodha Reviewed by Hannah Fordham Meera Sodha’s Fresh India was a solution to two problems. Newly (mostly) veggie, we were looking for quick mid-week meals. And newly living in the country, takeaway curry was the main thing we missed about city life. I’d been drooling over pretty much every recipe in Sodha’s Guardian column for a while, and the book hasn’t disappointed. The Chapel, Abergavenny A place where you can linger and be left alone It may not be the cheapest place for lunch in Abergavenny but the quality of the ingredients shine. The Chapel have their own vegetables and tend to use what’s in season for their menu. My choice at lunch was roasted carrots and chicory with a dukkah and labneh topping. The Kestrel Inn, Crickhowell REVIEWED BY ANDREA SAXTON The Kestrel Inn near Crickhowell is currently offering three choices of vegetarian starters and three choices of vegetarian main courses. Last week (July 2019) I had a Vegan starter and a Vegan main course. The chef Fiona is very accommodating. Richard co-owner sources local producers for food and drink (e.g. Ty Gwyn cider). Currently they offer two choices of ice-cream which are dairy free.

Favourite recipe books The first in a series! We have a number of food stained cook books that get used for inspiration over and over again. Here's the first. Which books are your favourites? I'm not sure how long ago we bought Ursula Ferrigno's Truly Italian, but it is well marked with splashes of tomato sauce and olive oil, so it must be some years' old. Mezze Me, Frogmore Street Abergavenny Reviewed by Carol We tried this Turkish restaurant mid-week in Abergavenny. It was fairly quiet but we sat outside to get the last of the sun. The waitress seemed a little inexperienced but brought out our glasses of wine fairly quickly. We checked the mezze menu and all but two items were veggie or vegan.
