Vegetarians and the environment

For a slightly sobering read, why not download this presentation that I put together for our local environment group a year or so again. There are some amazing statistics if you want some facts and figures to convince a friend why being a vegetarian or vegan is good for the environment.

Water use, deforestation, the inefficiency of producing one kilo of beef against one kilo of grain.

And it really is true about a vegetarian driving a 4x4 doing less damage to the environment than a meat eater on a bicycle (not that I am proposing to switch to a 4x4 at any time!)

One cow’s annual output of methane – about 100 kilograms – is equivalent to the emissions generated by a car burning 235 gallons of petrol.
